Protect Your Eyes From Smoke

I am not a smoker, never been and never will be. I mean I love my lungs for heaven's sake and so are my eyes! Below is a list of harmful effects of smoke on our eyes:

Effect of Smoking and 2nd Hand Smoke on Your Eyes

  • Smoking causes inflammation of conjuctiva (the thin membrane covering the eye). Thus results in bloodshot eyes and also irritated eyes.
  • There is a direct link between cataract and smoking. Smokers are at risk of developing cataract.
  • Smoking is also linked to the eye disease referred to as macular degeneration. Macular degeneration is caused by cardiovascular disease and is a major cause of blindness in the West. Smoking causes cardiovascular disease.
  • One needs to quit smoking to avoid the progress of diabetic retinopathy.
  • Blood vessels shrink or get constricted due to smoking causing glaucoma as well as optic nerve damage.
  • Chemicals get into the blood stream and burst through the macula (central part of the retina) or the cells in the macula die slowly. It eventually leads to loss of vision. (Rebuild Your Vision )
Knowing the list above, everyone of us who are currently suffering from eye problems should take extra care especially if we live and work with smokers everyday. When I was working in TV Production years ago, and most of my colleagues do smoke (usually after having our meal together), I politely leave and simply continue on with my day's work. I just can't afford to be sick...

Where to buy cheap contact lenses?

Few days back, I visited Ideal Vision for my eye check up and to buy new contact lenses as well. During the eye exam, I asked the optometrist what she thinks about eye exercises and she, as expected, didn't really buy the idea. She said it may help but wouldn't really bring your 20-20 vision back. Oh well then... After the eye exam, I was a bit disappointed to find out that my eye grade got higher at -3.00 (left eye) and -2.75 (right eye). a .25 increase in each eye, but the doctor said it's still much better considering my last check up was still in 2009.  However, I also found out that I now have an astigmatism. Probably because of working long hours in front of the computer. Yup, both eyes have different eye grades which reminds me to tell you how I ended up buying a more expensive contact lens.

I chose Ideal Vision simply because I took my last eye check up with them. I wanted to keep track of my records so I opted to stick with that optical shop. Now for the contacts, I heeded the optometrist's advice to get myself a set of contacts good for one year - a 6 pairs of contacts lenses (each pair good for 2-3 months). She handed me down a Precision UV, something I also used prior to the check up.  But because I have two different eye grades, I couldn't immediately take home 3 pairs which I first opted to buy. I still need to wait for 3 days, so I have no other choice but to buy 6 pairs right on the spot. The 6 pairs of Precision UV contacts plus the Aosept plus solution is worth Php2,490.

Passing through another optical shop, I asked the Executive Optical optometrist who happens to be at the counter area and asked her how much their eye contacts are worth. She said they're selling 6 pairs of Flexwear contacts for just Php 1,200+. I was surprised! They're selling contacts here for half the price I bought from Ideal Vision. Was I ripped off? I hope not. But realizing this, I begin to ask myself if the pairing of Precision UV and Aosept plus is really of high quality standard compared to Flexwear. I haven't used Flexwear so for those who knew, you can leave a comment below and you might enlighten me more. Because if Flexwear is just as good as Precision UV, I would definitely go for the cheaper contact lens.

After the purchase, I found out from my  four-eyed friends that indeed EO Executive Optical sells more affordable eye products and services. Geez, I should have known this beforehand. Anyway, you can check them out online at http://www.eo-executiveoptical.com/home/

10 Things I Hate About Wearing Eyeglasses

Wearing eyeglasses sure has its advantages but there are just some other things that make me really hate wearing one.

1. I started wearing eyeglasses since I was 10. During my first few days of wearing them, I hated the feeling of like there's something in front of me!

2. I hate that when I have new glasses, my ears hurt. As time passes by, this eyeglass became thicker and more uncomfortable to wear.

3. I hate that when they turn old and so used, they'd slip down my nose and I have to keep pushing them up.

4. They make me look older and less attractive!

5. I hate it when I tend to forget taking it off before going to sleep and realize after waking up that its screws are totally SCREWED UP because I've accidentally laid on it!

6. And once it breaks, it's expensive as hell to replace.

7. You can't wear sunglasses. Hello, you can never put glasses on top of another glasses.

8. Wearing one limits my actions, physically demanding activities such as sports. I don't want to be knocked down by a volleyball.

9. After few months of wearing them, green oil forms into the glasses nosepads. I have to visit the optical shop just to get them cleaned. Not only that, it also leaves marks on my nose!

10. It's irritating when my eyeglasses fog up, same goes when it's raining. Me and my four eyed friends would joke about installing a wiper on our eyeglasses.

Eyeglasses or Contact Lenses?

Your optometrist had just told your eye results, "Dear, I'm sorry but you need to wear eyeglasses, you've got really poor vision". The words slowly sinks into your head. You then realized you are now dependent on a piece of eyeglasses for the rest of your lives! But you don't want to wear one, it makes you look much older than your age! You are now left torn deciding between whether to buy your first brand new eyeglasses or contact lenses? I say you get both. Why? Sure they both helps us see clearly but each of these items has its distinct charm and use we may want from time to time, depending on our mood and plans for the day! :)

Advantages of wearing eyeglasses
1. Much easier to use. Just slip and slide unto your face and your off to go unlike contact lenses where you still need to wash your hands clean even before holding those contacts. Eyeglasses are much more convenient to use and requires little maintenance.

2. Less cheap. In the long run, owning a pair of eyeglasses is much affordable compared to maintaining your contacts clean where you have to buy eye solutions every now and then.

3. Makes you look smart. I'm not sure what's the reason behind that general assessment where most people perceives intelligent people wear eyeglasses. Aside from  that, you can still look stylish with latest designs of eyeglasses becoming more attractive and fashionable.

4. Less irritation. No need to worry that your eyes may get too irritated when exposed to harsh weather conditions compared to when wearing contacts.

5. Eyeglasses can act as a protective gear especially when it's windy outside.

Advantages of wearing contact lenses
1. Great alternative to wearing eyeglasses especially during parties or special events where you can flaunt your true natural look.

2. In the mood for some fashion? You can play with different colors of contacts to make your eye a little more catchy.

3. Glare no more! Compared to eyeglasses that can give you those unwanted glare and fog from time to time, contacts do not obstruct your view.

About

Hello there! If you happen to drop by this blog, then you're probably wondering too for ways to improve your eyesight. You're perhaps tired of consistently wearing plain old eyeglasses that may make you look older. Or you hated those moments where you accidentally dropped your contacts and would have to bring down the whole house just to find that tiny transparent piece. Do you feel frustrated going to the beach always careful that your contacts may be without a word galloped by the gigantic sea! You're not alone my friend. Thousands of people out there feels the same way too. I feel that way too. Those are harsh inconveniences we had to take after we fail to maintain those perfect 20-20 vision we used to have when we were born. But behind those brutal facts, is the thought that maybe someday, a miracle could happen and we could ultimately see life in clear vivid colors.

Hi, I'm Sarah and I've been wearing eyeglasses since I was 10 years old. I remember those times when I struggled to get my notes right because the texts in the blackboard were blurry. Blame it on my books, the TV and perhaps my genes! See, both of my parents have eye problems and wears eyeglasses too. But Mom found a way to get her 20-20 vsion back, thanks to the eye laser treatment sponsored be her company. Alas, I don't have enough grand and guts to go through an eye operation that doesn't even guarantees a 100% success!

Now, since one of my ultimate dream is to gain back those lost perfect vision, I swear to work hard to look for possible ways to get those clear eyesight back without dependency from eyeglasses and contact lenses. I badly wanted to get my hands free from those things one day. This blog is a start. This site will document my journey to a vibrant healthy pair of eyes and could hopefully help other people out there who, like me is suffering from poor eyesight. So watch and see! :)
